That was worth more than two cents, Stewie! I agree. Some players are lucky to be on a winning cup team, and some of the best players are amazing talents who never get their. And engraved on Lord Stanley's chalice. Whatever he needs to do, do it and do it fast. That window won't be open too long!

I guess going to Russia is fine and dandy to preserve his skill and energy, but it also means giving up a chance to win a cup now. Other than taking one season to off to play in the olympics, I'm not sure ovechkin should consider it

This is ridiculous.

He won't walk away for almost $10m/ year nor will the NHL allow one of its more marketable stars to just forget his contract to go to the khl.

This makes sense in absolutely ZERO levels.

I agree. Ovi had an off year. I don't like the idea of him screwing over the Caps and his fans. He has a contract to honour, and I don't think he is the kind of guy to do that.

lol

Not that kinda guy? What makes him any different than Jagr or Kovalchuk? If anything, Mr. The Olympics Are More Important, is more of that kinda guy than they were.

Seriously though, he's not helping the team or his fans by turning into a one-dimensional PP specialist (lets' face it, that's what he basically is anymore) who can't play a complete game anyway. So what do you think he'll be helping by trying to once again try to win a cup after this team starts dismantling all the star power they've accumulated for the "all in" season that wasn't, and after two years of the team that's supposed to win it all, going backwards and just trying to make a playoff spot is more than likely?

Outside of being an elder statesman type, he's not the player to carry that team anymore and quite frankly, was probably never the leader type they needed. They need to focus going forward on players like Burakovsky and Kuznetsov and allow Ovechkin to either go find himself in Russia, or sitting on some mountain contemplating things, even if for just a year, because if anyone thinks the Caps and Ovi are going to climb back up on that horse and drag all the emotional baggage of two gloriously failed attempts back into another playoff run to the cup and actually succeed next season, they're insane.

For him to just gather up all the pieces and go at it again next season with his state of mind and state of physical condition won't help anyone. I'm not a big fan of his, but he needs a break or it's only going to go further south from here.

1) He would make about the same with SKA as he does with the Caps.

2) As with Kovalchuk, it is not up to the NHL. He could file NHL retirement paperwork, then sign in the KHL with the same considerations/obstacles to overcome for a return.

Kovalchuk left because he didn't want to end up owning the Devils instead of being paid his salary. I'm sure he had a conversation or two with Mario about how that went.

Yeah, all it did for Mario was get him 2 cups as an owner, and we all know

1) Ovechkin isn't gonna win a cup on the ice
2) Ovechkin isn't gonna win a cup as an owner

Plus Mario turned his 15-20 million investment into about 200 million if not more.

To bad the National Garbage League cannot come up with some better Ref's than morons like Kevin Pollack, Dan O'Rourke, Dan O'Halloran, Francois "FRENCHIE" St. Laurent, and Justin St. Pierre. But then again, Gary Bettman loves inferior officials, always has!!
